Focused Instruction Process

Strategic Learning Initiatives plays an integral part of the Focused Instruction Process in Chicago Public Schools.  Teamed with Pat Davenport, SLI introduced the process to ten schools in the spring of 2006 with its implementation beginning in the 2006-2007 school year.

The Focused Instruction Process provides a step by step design for increasing student achievement, and is based on the "Eight Step Instructional Process" originally designed by Mary Barksdale in Brazosport, Texas.  Patricia Davenport, author of two books on school improvement through the eight steps, has been the leader of this process in Chicago.  Teamed with SLI, Pat conducts frequent Process Checks as part of the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle where teacher leaders and administrators collaborate, review, and make adaptations to the process for their individual schools.

Every member of the school team from student to administrator plays an essential part in its implementation.  When the process is implemented as designed, the results speak for themselves.
