Extended-Response Workshops
This module of three workshops provided over a one year period, centers around identifying and developing written and oral reading and math prompts. Teachers review research and rubrics for scoring student responses. Reading and math strategies are introduced that facilitate development of Extended-Responses.
Outcomes for Workshop One include:
- Assessing teachers understanding of reading extended-responses.
- Identifying the basic elements of reading extended-responses.
- Exploring skills that students need to be successful with extended responses.
- Sharing strategies to enhance the skills needed for success with extended-responses.
- Piloting reading extended-response prompts that parallel the rigor of the ISAT.
Workshop Two of Extended-Response provides an opportunity for teachers to analyze student work based on piloted reading Extended-Response Prompts.
Outcomes include:
- Analyzing authentic samples of student work resulting from extended response .
- Identifying teaching strategies to help students demonstrate understanding in writing extended-responses.
- Formulating various approaches to answering extended response questions.
- Practice in writing extended-responses based on readings from fiction or non fiction materials.
Workshop Three of Extended-Response focuses on writing Math Extended-Responses.
Outcomes include:
- Formulating procedures for teaching math extended-responses.
- Sharing strategies for writing math extended-responses.
- Analyzing scoring practices for math extended-responses.
