Networks
SLI’s model for instilling and nurturing shared leadership both within and across school walls is demonstrated through the successes of its three neighborhood networks:
- Developing Outcomes for Educational Success (D.O.E.S.)
- Westside Schools Making a Difference (W.S.M.D.)
- Focused Instruction Process (F.I.P.).
While D.O.E.S. and W.S.M.D. consists of schools within three different Chicago Public Schools instructional Areas (Areas 7, 10, & 11), the focus and support is the same, Scaling Up Best Practices. Each network provides:
- Individual network professional development and parent engagement workshops,
- Facilitator and coordinator training and support,
- Principal coaching,
- Site visits and
- Leadership team meetings five times per year.
The key outcomes for the leadership team meetings in both networks include:
- Building a sense of community in the Network.
- Reviewing outcomes of both professional development and parent engagement program.
- Providing an instructional “Strategy of the Day”.
- Sharing the latest ‘Best Practice’ research, based on the network focus for the year.
The end of the year is culminated by bringing the two networks together for a retreat to celebrate successes, share strategies, evaluate activities and results, and establish goals and objectives for the coming year which guide planning for each school and the individual network.
The third network, F.I.P. (Focused Instruction) is comprised of ten schools in Areas 7 & 10. This innovative design for Scaling Up Best Practices provides support to the schools through:
- Professional development on the Pat Davenport Eight Step Process.
- On-site weekly SLI facilitators to aid staff in the process implementation
- Principal coaching
- School specific leadership and grade level team meetings
- Instructional calendar and assessment development
- Identification / development of resources for the classrooms
- Assistance with data analysis and the establishment of Data Rooms.
- Quarterly Process Checks for principals and leadership teams with SLI and Pat Davenport
- Individual school site visits twice per year by SLI and Pat Davenport
- Combined principal dialogue sessions twice per year
- Quarterly Support Team meetings
- Quarterly meetings with the AIO’s and Central Office leadership
